Watch baby turtles reach the sea

Seeing hatchlings run towards the waves for the first time is a moment of hope, and the beginning of a long journey.

How a release works

  1. Meet the team

We explain the life of sea turtles and how to behave on the beach.

  2. Walk to the beach

The hatchlings are carried to the beach in a container by our team.

  3. The release

The hatchlings are placed on the sand a few metres from the water and crawl to the sea by themselves. This walk helps them get their bearings.

  4. Watch them go

We make sure every hatchling reaches the water.

A responsible release

  • Hatchlings crawl to the sea on their own: nobody throws or carries them into the water
  • No flash and no torches on the beach
  • Hands with sunscreen or insect repellent must not touch the turtles
  • Everyone stays behind the hatchlings so that nothing blocks their way

Join a night watch

During the nesting season (April to August), you can join our team on its night patrols along the beach. The goal is to find nests before predators or the tide, and to relocate the eggs to our semi-natural hatchery. With luck, you may see a female turtle laying her eggs.

Frequently asked questions

Another question? Write to us on WhatsApp.

When can I release a turtle in Bali?

Releases take place regularly during the hatching period, which follows the nesting season (April to August). Contact us on WhatsApp a few days before to know the next dates.

How much does it cost to join a release?

There is no fixed price: participation is by donation, which funds the protection of the next nests.

Can I see a turtle laying eggs?

Possibly. From April to August, you can join our night patrols. Nesting can never be guaranteed, but every patrol helps protect nests.

Can children take part?

Yes, children are welcome with an adult.

Is releasing baby turtles ethical?

It can be, if the hatchlings come first. At our releases, the hatchlings come from nests protected on our coast and crawl to the sea on their own. Nobody touches them with sunscreen or insect repellent on their hands, and flash is not allowed. Participation is by donation, which funds the protection of the next nests.
